Compassion and outreach created
the Welfare Reform Ministry Task Force. Its purpose is to be
partners in ministry with Asian
Health Services (AHS) and CityTeam Ministries in the Chinatown community. Our partnerships included financial support as well as voluntary service.
Financial support enabled Asian Health Services to provide low income, uninsured immigrants with much needed medical and dental care. Annually, the church's toy drive brings joy and laughter to young patients who come to the Asian Health Services clinic during the Christmas season.
Financial support also enabled CityTeam to provide its clients much needed assistance for rental deposits or a month's rent to avoid eviction from their homes. |

CCUMC Nursery School is a bilingual church-based program in Oakland
Chinatown that predominantly serves the Chinatown and Asian-American
community. Beginning September 1, 2009 our Nursery School is on
Inactive Status for one school year. We will inform the parents and
community when our school will be reactivated. Our school program and
curriculum will be restructured to be consistent with the mission of
our church and better benefit the children enrolled in our school. We
will keep you informed of the progress of the restructuring. We also
want to thank you for your support all these years. If you have
questions or would like to receive update on the Inactive Status,
please contact our Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Peter Lau at 510-452-1020.

CCUMC previously held
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, but the ESL
program was placed on inactive
on February 2010. Folks from all over the community learned or
improved their English speaking and writing skills. We provided
beginning, intermediate, and advanced English
classes. Please email
ccumc.seniorpastor@gmail.com if you are interested in
being a student or a volunteer instructor when the ESL
program is reactivated.
